These youth are currently living in New Kingston gullies, or sewers. They are attacked by the public and are often forced to sell sex to survive, putting them at high risk for HIV and AIDS

Dwayne’s House exists to help homeless gay, lesbian and trans* youth in Jamaica achieve their personal goals as they become adults. We intend to do this by helping them to feel cared for and included after experiences that warp their view of who they are and what they can be.

The Plight of the Youth

The culture of violent homophobia in Jamaica causes some parents to throw their gay or transgender children on to the streets, with some as young as 12 years old. Some have been forced to engage in sex-work to survive. They are paid extra to have condom-less sex, which increases their vulnerability to HIV and other STIs.
